Portuguese Milk Custard-Leite Creme


In Portugal it’s very usual to eat this dessert on Christmas and New Year’s.
It’s really sweet and everybody loves it, especially children.
So, I’m gonna show you how you can surprise your family and friends this Christmas.

You’ll need:

1 liter of milk
7 egg yolks
150 g sugar
2 tbsp of cornstarch
2 lemon peel
1 cinnamon stick
Sugar as you like

First of all, put the egg yolks in a pot and mix them very well with the cornstarch, the cooker must be off.



Then, put in the sugar and mix well.


After that, turn on the cooker and add the milk and mix everything together, stir continuously.


Now the smell is coming, and you’re feeling like: “I want to eat it all!”
But you still have some things left, which is the lemon peels and the cinnamon stick, so now, after mixing the milk you can add these two things. And….stir until the “paste” starts bubbling.


When it starts bubbling, turn off the cooker and take out the lemon peels and the cinnamon stick.


We’re almost finished; so now you have to put the creme in a dish that you like, it could be a plate, a lane, whatever else and cover it with sugar.


Let the creme cool down, and then with an iron or lighter, burn the sugar out, so it will taste better, or if you prefer, add cinnamon on the top of the creme.


PS: This recipe is for a big family, so if your family is small, feel free to change the quantity of the ingredients.
